  • The quiet cloister of the cathedral houses some of the most important works in this museum

You'll find the Cathedral Museum in the Old Cathedral in Plasencia. You can begin your visit in St Paul's chapel, where you'll find a selection of choir books on display. They are made of leather and have very beautiful miniatures from the 15th century. But you can also admire the works of Zurbarán and Caravaggio, amongst other painters. The polychrome sculpture of the Virgin that presides over this chapel is known as the Virgin of Forgiveness. It is Gothic in style and is sculpted in stone.

Continue on your tour through the cloister. There are some gravestones, a baptismal font and some Roman remains here. But without a doubt, due to its extreme Gothic style, the most important piece is a sculpture of Santa María de la Blanca in polychrome stone.

Besides the above, during your visit to the Plasencia Cathedral Museum, you can't miss the space dedicated to ornaments in the Nave of the Gospel. They are mostly made from velvet, precious silks and pearls, and hand-embroidered between the 16th and 18th centuries. You will also see two pictures by Luis de Morales – "El Divino" (The Divine One), a Christ by Pompeo Leoni (16th century) and the Virgin of the Sacrarium (12th and 13th centuries), made in wood embossed in silver, amongst other works.
