  • Monroy Castle, a Spanish cultural heritage site, stands in the main square of the town with the same name.

Monroy Castle is in the province of Cáceres, in the municipality which gives it its name, specifically in the town's main square. Its origins date back to 1309, when royal privileges were conceded to the nobleman Hernán Pérez de Monroy to populate this area and to build a fortress in the Gothic-Mudejar style. Later on, in the 16th century, it underwent restructuring and was converted into a castle cum palace.

In the same way, later reforms returned this fortress to its original splendour along with the oldest part, made up of a quadrangular main body and three fourteenth century towers, together with the wall which was built over the remains of a previous one of medieval origin. There is a moat around the fortress, which required drawbridges to gain access to the interior of Monroy Castle, a Spanish cultural heritage site.
