  • The walls surrounding the town of Galisteo, in the province of Cáceres, attest to its strategic location. Many different people set eyes on this town over the centuries and have left many monuments and remains.

Situated in the northwest of the province of Cáceres, very close to Plasencia, the town of Galisteo is surrounded by solid walls, which show that this is a privileged and strategic location. It is, therefore, a wonderful viewpoint from which to see the Jerte Valley, Alagón River and Sierra de Ambroz Mountains, especially from the Palacio viewpoint and El Piricutín, where you'll find the so-called "queen's seat", made out of stone.

The first documentary evidence of the town's name goes back to 1217. The town's history can be seen in the historic quarter, surrounded by the walls, in the traditional white-washed houses and Almohad layout, its castle-palace known as La Picota, the Church of La Asunción, and the stone arcades in the Plaza Mayor square. Thanks to all this, the village was declared a cultural heritage site in 1996.

Its traditional festivities include Las Rajas, which goes back to the 17th century. It also has many traditional dishes, such as "migas galisteas" (fried breadcrumbs), "frite galisteo" (a fried dish), "moje de trucha" (a trout dish) and Galisteo-style tongue.
