Castillo de los Arcos

The Castillo de los Arcos is located in pastureland just outside the town of Almendral. It is a stately fortress of the late period. It was built in the 15th and 16th centuries by order of Lorenzo Suárez de Figueroa, based on a design similar to the Feria and Nogales fortresses.

It was built of masonry, dressed stone and brick, as a rectangular enclosure with squat towers at the corners and a keep in the centre. After the struggle against the comuneros it was renovated, it is not open to visits at the present as it is private property and currently inhabited.

Near the castle they have found the remains of an old Gothic-Mudejar hermitage or basilica and the medieval Castillejo bridge.
