    A church that shelters different species of birds, and is consequently catalogued as a protected space.

    This protected space is in the town of Almendralejo, in the province of Badajoz, specifically in the church of La Purificación. This is the first urban SPA to be declared in Extremadura, and its fundamental aim is to protect a colony of lesser kestrels that nest in the roof of the church.

    But this is not the only species that lives in the famous church, as the eighty pairs of this little falcon, which is catalogued as vulnerable, co-exist with other bird species like white storks and barn owls. Birds you can observe from the parish rooftop or the belltower of the church itself.

    An ornithological treasure, which you can enjoy alongside its historical and cultural heritage.
