  • On the left bank of the Guadiana River, between Don Benito and Mérida, we find the town of Medellín.

    Its main attractions include its monuments and archaeological remains, which enable you to take a journey into its past and discover the town's history and culture. On the hill where the medieval castle and the roman teather stands you'll find one of the most comprehensive archaeological sites in Western Europe, with remains that go from the Bronze Age to the end of the modern period, showing that many cultures that have inhabited this land.

    Medellín boasts beautiful religious buildings, with three churches: the Church of Santiago, built in the 13th century between the castle and the urban area, where you can learn about the town's development through history; the Church of San Martín, also built in the 13th century, on the remains of a Roman temple; and the Church of Santa Cecilia, dating from the 16th century, which is the only church used in Medellín and named after the town's patron saint.

    Medellín also has rich traditional architecture, inviting visitors to enjoy the bridges and monuments, such as the splendid Austrias bridge, the ruins of Porta Caeli, the Almohad walls, the bridge over the Cagánchez stream, the bridge over the Ortigas River, and the mill next to the Guadiana River.

    The town also has many routes and paths to enjoy the countryside and sports. You can walk along the royal cattle trail, or go horse riding, for example.
