  • This 15th-century fortress retains the original Gothic beauty contemplated by Charles V during his stay in Jarandilla de la Vera.

The municipality of Jarandilla de la Vera in Cáceres province contains numerous architectural treasures, most notably the castle of the Counts of Oropesa. This fortress dates back to the mid-15th century and is comprised of three quadrangular structures made of masonry and ashlars.

As you will be able to see, on the original building access to the inside was via a drawbridge, a characteristic underlined by its wall and moat. Apart from this attraction, it has a beautiful courtyard and a spacious two-storey Gothic gallery. Without doubt a space enjoyed by the monarch Charles V during his stay in this castle, where he lived until his residence in the Yuste monastery was built. It is now the parador of Jarandilla de la Vera.
